Makeup Brush Essentials for Beginners :)

We can never have enough Makeup Brushes! Choosing the right makeup brush can be really hard at times, specially if your just getting into makeup. When I started makeup (4 years back) I had no clue Makeup Brushes existed. I thought that fingers and those sponge-tip applicators you get in a palette are used for creating looks. Thank God for the existence of YouTube! So I wanna share with you guys (specially beginners) a guide on how to start with your brush collection and which type of brushes are must haves. Also I made sure that its not too heavy on your pocket but also not anything that you will regret after buying.

Below is a list of basic brushes you need to have to start off with makeup. My favourite are Eco Tools and Real Techniques brushes for every function. They have every brush you need from starter to pro!

Face Brushes

Buffing Brush/ Foundation Brush -

If you have a Flawless skin already or just very less Imperfections, you can skip foundation/buffing brushes for beginning. But this is a must have if you have Acne, Pigmentation, uneven skin tone, etc. Foundation is a base of your makeup, basically you need to create a flawless canvas first to further bring out your creation! So having a good foundation brush is must.
Real Techniques Buffing Brush
I recommend using this type (buffing) of foundation brush as it helps blend in the foundation better than the regular flat foundation brushes. Eco Tools also has similar brush, check it HERE.

Concealer Brush -

Weather you have perfect or imperfect skin, you need to have a good concealer brush. You not only use concealer for hiding your imperfections, but also to highlight your under eye area. As an alternate option, it can also be used to apply cream eye bases.

Real Techniques Pointed Foundation brush and Eco Tools Concealer Brush

Both these brushes are amazing quality and has multiple purposes apart from concealing.

Powder Brush/ Kabuki Brush -

Its really necessary you set your face makeup with a loose/compact powder so that it stays protected from melting off or getting oily throughout the day. For that, you need a good powder brush which picks up the product thoroughly and applies precisely. You can also use a kabuki brush for this purpose.

I like to use the Real Techniques Setting Brush to set the under eye and the large Eco Tools Powder brush for the full face. Eco Tools Kabuki brush also is a great alternative, check it out HERE.

Blush Brush -

If you like your cheeks to stand out, then a blush brush is essential. It lets you achieve a precise application of blush without making it look like 'clown spots'! You can use a regular small sized powder brush for blush. My recommendation is Real Techniques Multi-task Brush as its bristles are super soft and dense which gives you that perfect wash of colour you need on your cheeks.

Eye Brushes

You don't need that many eye-shadow brushes starting off. Just a few to complete your eye look for daily use:

Blending Brush -

According to me, a good eye-shadow blending brush is the most essential eye brush everyone needs to own. It really gives in a big hand making your eye-shadow colours create smooth transition and even everything out. I totally love the Real Techniques Essential Crease Brush for colour application in the crease because its just the perfect size which fits in the crease and Eco Tools blending brush for blending out harsh edges.

Flat Shader Brush -

As a beginner, You need yo have at least one flat shader brush to swipe on colour to your eyelid. A medium sized one would be the best. Check out an example HERE.

Angled Eyeliner Brush -

Last but not the least, an angled brush can be put into many uses; Filling in your brows, applying Gel Liners, Swiping colour on your lower lash-line and also pressing eye-shadow in your waterline.

You don't have to buy these brushes individually, I know that would cost a lot. Instead both the companies have different sets from which you can choose. My recommendation of sets would be Real Techniques Sam's Picks and Eco Tools Starter set and Mineral Set.

    1. Hi Linda.
You can get Sigma brushes at Miss Harrods Store on their website www.missharrods.com or check out their IG Profile @missharrods_store.
You can also check on @babrbieshopq8 on IG.
Their numbers are mentioned in their description. :)
For beginners, I personally would recommend the 'Sigma Make Me Cool' Brush Set.
Other than Sigma, if you'd like you can check out 'Coastal Scents 22 Piece' Brush Set as it is more affordable.
Hope you find what you're looking for. Take care. xx
